Big Burger World

A beloved 1960s-era burger stand serving massive handmade burgers, thick shakes, and weekend BBQ through a walk-up window with classic Americana charm.

Big Burger World is a Canon City institution that's been serving oversized, handmade burgers since 1968. This red-and-white striped drive-up has retained its 1960s charm while building a devoted following for its epic portions and quality ingredients. The concept is beautifully simple: walk up to the window, place your order, grab a seat at one of the picnic tables, and enjoy a burger experience that hearkens back to the golden age of American roadside dining. The atmosphere gives off that perfect 1950s hamburger stand vibe you see in the movies—genuine nostalgia, not a manufactured reproduction. The burgers here are legendary for their size. Fair warning: what they call a 'small' burger is actually regular-sized elsewhere. The half-pound Big Burger is the signature, but they offer various combinations and toppings to customize your experience. All patties are handmade and cooked to order. Beyond burgers, the thick shakes come in many flavors and are made with real ice cream. On Fridays and Saturdays, they offer slow-smoked BBQ dinners that draw crowds from across the region. The fries are crispy and generous. The restaurant has been family-owned since 1991, with owner Regina Misurelli and her daughter Kirby carrying on the tradition of quality and hospitality. Cash is preferred, and the limited hours (closed Sundays and Mondays) mean you need to plan your visit—but loyal fans will tell you it's absolutely worth the effort.
